Artist's concept of International Space Station February 5, 1999 Huntsville, AL - A program at the 1999 Space Technology & Application International Forum (STAIF) outlining the opportunities and plans for commercial operations aboard the International Space Station reached a large and receptive audience. Co-Chaired by Mark Nall, of NASA's Space Product Development Program and Mark Deuser, of Space Hardware Optimization Technology, Inc., the panel featured presentations on commercial Protein Crystal Growth, Plant Research, Materials Research and Development, Combustion, and Biotechnology.

Each section was presented by leaders in those commercial research areas, and attendance remained standing room only through the session. Audience interest was high, and many of the presenters were approached by people wanting further information about the different programs and opportunities. "The fact that it was one of the best attended sessions clearly demonstrates the interest by companies in doing business in space," stated Mr. Nall. "Work is already underway inplanning for potential follow-on sessions for next year's conference."
